Magnetic Storm assists in showcasing the best of Eastern Cape creativity at the 2019 Museum Gala by Mantis

Magnetic Storm is delighted once again collaborate on the Friends of the Art Museum fundraiser, the Museum Gala by Mantis on August 22nd, 2019.

The theme for 2019, The Golden Thread, pays tribute to the relationship between art and fashion, and reflects the collection of traditional Xhosa costumes and textiles of the current Chinese exhibition. “Our collection reflects the diverse culture within Nelson Mandela Bay,” remarks Emma O’Brien, the director for the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum. “Textiles and art references scatter language and as curators we uncover threads to pull together and weave stories about art, design and it’s connection to people.”

A proudly Eastern Cape business, Magnetic Storm is honoured to partner in the showcase of Eastern Cape creativity. “Supporting the arts, not just those on stage is important to the Magnetic Storm team,” adds Magnetic Storm Director, Jane Stevenson. "Light and sound have the power to evoke deep emotions and create connections, our senses are incredibly powerful, and we designed the event lighting to showcase each piece or art to connect guests to the designers and artists."

This year creations from designers such as Jenni Button, Amanda Knots, Cleo Allison and Gugu Peteni will be on show, as well as footwear by Nadine Murray of Kitibella.

In 2018, the Museum Gala by Mantis raised R60,000 which upon the creation and implementation of a selection committee will contribute to the purchase of local artwork for the Art Museum. The funds raised from the 2019 event will be added to the previous years’ proceeds.

Tickets are on sale for R900 per person, and selling fast, email michelle.brown@axxess.co.za to purchase.
